Take taking it easy seriously…

Herrow guys! How was your month?

Things have been super busy around here… June is usually like that, tons of birthdays, traditional festivals, and this year with the World Cup, yikes lol But overall, everything went really well!

This month’s reflection came with its own complimentary trial. I guess the universe thought I was being a bit too hypocritical and decided to test me, but to understand why, you’ll have to stick around until the end.

Don’t worry, the text is short this time.

How unimportance should be valued

This topic can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the context you live in, but I wanted to start by saying that, regardless of that, talking about unimportance is incredibly liberating.

I think all the other reflections in this newsletter so far have had a more critical and deep tone, while this topic (despite having its share of critique) has a much more “f*ck it” essence, and I think that automatically brings more lightness to everything.

Saying “take taking it easy seriously” might sound a bit confusing, maybe even contradictory, but the idea is to realize how good and relevant it is to give ourselves due unimportance, especially at the right moments.

It’s about creating a mental mechanism. Whenever you’re in a self-criticism spiral, or when perfectionism is dictating your life (very frequent situations for the creator speaking to you right now ✌️), just stop and think: is this really that important?

Most of the time, it’s not.
Sometimes it’s just a drawing, just a painting, just a text… nothing major. There are so many in the world, mine is just one more.

There’s also that desperate feeling of thinking everyone is going to see what you did and judge you. Besides being tied to a main character syndrome, it’s triggered, most of the time (if not all), by the fear of making a mistake. As if making a mistake were a deadly sin, and the consequences were always catastrophic.

And the mental mechanism tactic is great for giving perspective on…
Well, on everything lol But in this case, on the creative process as a whole.

It doesn’t mean recalculating your route, or even giving up on walking the path. It’s giving yourself the realization that it’s just another path. Taking the process seriously doesn’t have to be heavy, inflexible, or harsh. It’s about pursuing a goal with clarity, while understanding that it’s made through an uncertain path. Controlling your steps (which isn’t the same as knowing where to step, mind you) won’t make a difference… The more detached and spontaneous it is, the better.

When you detach from your ego, embrace insignificance, and gain perspective on what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, making mistakes becomes a fear you actually want to face. It’s about messing up while trying to get it right, but wanting, above all, to learn.

Anyway, this might be the most hypocritical text I’ve ever written lol Giving myself due unimportance doesn’t come naturally to me, but putting this “mental mechanism” into practice made a huge difference in the emotional impact frustration has on me, and in how I deal with others’ judgment.

So give yourself due unimportance, because at the end of the day, the creative moments you’re most proud of are the ones where you were the most relaxed.

And for those who stayed until the end out of curiosity to know what happened for the universe to test me, I’ll tell you right now that it’s nothing major, but I found it ironic that it happened exactly in the month I’m writing about unimportance.

Basically, this newsletter’s platform created a new translation tool, which I thought was amazing and would make the process much faster and more practical. However, after lots of testing, consulting with Geni (that’s what I call Gemini, I kinda pretend he’s my Jarvis lol), and spending a ton of time trying to figure out how this thing works, turns out I won’t be able to use it after all 🫠.

And so, the mechanism was put to the test lol

But f*ck it, it’s not that important anyway.
